On Wednesday, DOT crews will begin work on the major component of a roundabout project on Greenville highway.

A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will close a section of Greenville Highway in order to complete construction of a box culvert and roundabout at the intersections with Erkwood Drive and Shepherd Street.

“The roundabout will allow traffic to flow right on through with very limited congestion, and it will greatly reduce the possibility of T-bone crashes at that intersection,” said NCDOT Communications Officer David Uchiyama.

Crews hope to realign the intersections, improve traffic flow and reduce crashes in the area.

Construction should take about 90 days to complete.

There is a marked detour in place at Brooklyn Avenue, N.C.-176, and North Highland Lake Road.
