JOHNSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WCYB) - Electric Linemen were honored in Johnson County, Tennessee, for their work rescuing a woman trapped in her car by floodwaters.

On Feb. 6, they used their bucket truck in a rescue when emergency teams were unable to remove the woman safely.

In a ceremony at the County Commission Meeting Mayor Mike Taylor awarded them with a special honor.

Knowing that the workers did not considered themselves heroes the mayor came up with a different way to honor them.

“I just reverted to the words of our lord that said that no greater love can be to man than to lay down his life for another,” Taylor says.

He gave them the “Agape Award” inspired by their selfless efforts.

“They very much fit that category of selflessness and sacrificial giving of their time and actually risking their lives to save others” he explains.

But for Cody Bryant and Rick Courtner it was just another day on the job.

They say they were not afraid for themselves. Their only concern was saving a life.

“The Flying a bucket doesn’t feel dangerous, you know, we were worried over the lady,” Courtner says. “We didn’t know if she was going to be washed on down so we were just trying to get her out as fast as possible.”

Bryant says he wasn’t afraid, just happy to help.

“It’s good to help someone out in the community and [be] there for the community,” Bryant says.
