If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, "Michigan's longest garage" on US 12 started Friday.

People were taking precautions. We did see a lot of people wearing masks.

The people we talked to were glad the sale was still happening because it’s become a tradition for their family.

This weekend, all along US 12 you’ll see many garage sales.

Beth Chappell and her daughter Lydia travel from Indiana every year to find good deals, and they weren’t going to let the pandemic stop them this year.

"We’re fine complying with the mask regulations," said Chappell. "We just wanted to get out. It’s a tradition."

Vendors are told to wear masks to follow the state-wide mandate and customers are encouraged to wear them as well.

Chappell says she goes every year with her mother-in-law and now her daughter enjoys coming along too.

"I look for stuff for my nephew and yard decor."

"I actually got an American girl doll for $15," said Lydia Chappell.

Chappell said she had her route planned out and her last stop of the day was going to be in Three Oaks.

There is a big sale of 36 vendors at the elementary school. It’s also a fundraiser for the Region of Three Oaks Museum.

Chappell says there’s nothing better than finding a good deal at a garage sale.

"Garage saling is fun when you find a good treasure and you get a good deal. There’s that kind of euphoria you get from that."

It’s also important if you’re driving on US 12 this weekend to be aware there will be more people than normal and people will be crossing the road so be cautious.
