LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- Snow could develop across Virginia including the ABC 13 viewing area on Thursday.

As I type this, I’m uncertain of the snowfall amounts as the low pressure area that would produce the snow hasn’t fully developed yet— so there is nothing specific to track right now!

One computer model actually shows totals in the 6” range across Southside! That forecast seemed unrealistic.

Rather than just make a wild guess of how much snow we get (if any) for a storm that isn’t there yet, I’m giving you a vague forecast until I’m more certain.

But if you're reading this, you want to know what we're thinking!

Right now if I had to give a total, my current thinking -- snow totals less than 1” for most of the ABC13 area including Lynchburg/Bedford, Danville/Southside and Roanoke.

If the storm trends stronger, then the totals will be higher. If the precipitation stays south, then our yards will remain brown.

AS SPECIFIC OF A FORECAST THAT I CAN GIVE NOW:

  • Temperatures will be cold enough for snow on Thursday.
  • But I’m uncertain if precipitation will develop this far north. (Heaviest stays south.)
  • Most and the heaviest precipitation will occur across the Carolinas.
  • If we do get snow, the first snowflakes could begin Thursday afternoon, persisting into Thursday night.
  • As I don’t know how much snow we would get yet, there is no way to know how much, if any, would accumulate.

Check back for updates. When I know more, I’ll share it with you! – George
