CHARLESTON, W.Va. — RISE West Virginia’s second stick-built home reconstruction is underway in Nicholas County, according to state Adjutant General Jim Hoyer.
Hoyer provided an update Friday on RISE’s recent work in connection with recovery from the 2016 flood.
“Construction teams have already completed the foundation, put up all exterior walls, and have begun work to put the new home’s roof in place,” the update said.
A RISE home construction project in Greenbrier County is awaiting final inspection. Appalachia Service Project crews have been doing the finishing work.
Hoyer said several more home construction groundbreakings will take place over the next several weeks.
“West Virginia VOAD’s case management team currently has 10 projects ready for physical construction as soon as weather conditions allow for work to begin and once the appropriate building permits are finalized,” according to the update.
A more specific breakdown from Hoyer includes:
–outstanding homeowner cases remains at 409. A breakdown of the nature of those cases is as follows: 171 cases require total reconstruction, 153 cases require some form of rehabilitation, and 85 cases require new mobile home unit replacement.
–20 properties that are still in-construction under the original contracts.
The state has picked up the pace in spending the $150 million in federal funding available for long-term flood recovery.
