RCB sweeps regular-season series from Bridgeport, 71-64

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Tanner Kennedy scored 25 points and Robert C. Byrd capped a regular-season sweep of Bridgeport 71-64 Saturday.

The Flying Eagles (16-4) will likely be the No. 1 seed for the upcoming sectional tournament and would be able to secure homecourt advantage all the way to Charleston.

“We feel good about having that top seed and being able to play at home as long as we can,” said RCB coach Bill Bennett.

Bridgeport (17-4), which lost despite Nick Stalnaker’s 38 points, likely will be the No. 2 seed when the official pairings are released Tuesday.

The Flying Eagles trailed 32-30 at halftime but ended the third quarter on an 8-0 to run take a 54-48 lead heading into the fourth. In the final frame, RCB made just one field goal but controlled the pace of play to secure a critical victory.

RCB featured a balanced offensive attack with four players in double figures. Bryson Lucas scored 14 points, Khori Miles added 13 and Gavin Kennedy chipped in 10.

John Ross Mazza added 10 points for the Indians.
