More than 2 dozen counties under severe thundestorm watch

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for more than two dozen West Virginia counties until Monday night.

Sunny skies, heat and humidity were expected to supply the energy for the storms.

According to meteorologists, the storms could contain lightning, damaging winds and hail. The rain could cause flash flooding.

The following counties are under the watch until 9 p.m.:

Boone, Braxton, Cabell, Calhoun, Clay, Doddridge, Fayette, Gilmer, Harrison, Jackson, Kanawha, Lewis, Lincoln, Logan, Mason, McDowell, Mingo, Nicholas, Pleasants, Putnam, Raleigh, Ritchie, Roane, Tyler, Wayne, Webster, Wirt, Wood and Wyoming.

These counties until 10 p.m.:

Monongalia, Preston, Marion, Wetzel, Marshall, Ohio, Brooke and Hancock.
