Jeff Foxworthy looking forward to State Fair of West Virginia stop

FAIRLEA, W.Va. — The State Fair of West Virginia should be full of laughs on its final night, Saturday.

The comedy will be courtesy of famous comedian Jeff Foxworthy, bringing his national tour to Fairlea, starting at 8 p.m.

Jeff Foxworthy

Foxworthy, known for his “You Might be a Redneck” lines and down to Earth personality, appeared on Friday’s MetroNews ‘Talkline’ and said he got lucky finding his material at a young age.

“I’ve found out early on what worked for me,” he said. “I just assumed that if I think something, my wife says something or my family does something, I am going to trust that other people are thinking, saying and doing the same thing.”

Foxworthy now co-hosts ‘Bring the Funny’ on NBC and has appeared in numerous Hollywood films. He was also known for hosting the show “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” But Foxworthy says stand-up comedy is his first love.

“I’ve done TV and movies, I enjoy doing them. But if you had a gun to my head and said I could only do one thing, I wouldn’t even hesitate, it would be stand-up,” he said.

Foxworthy added he understands today’s culture and said that comedy is harder today than it has ever been.

“Stand up has almost become the last place where you can tell the truth,” he said. “We have become so politically correct, everything you say you worry about offending somebody. Stand-up you can kind of show it to them say isn’t this a little bit crazy.” You can find the best standup comedians at https://newstandupcomedy.com/.

Foxworthy, a Georgia native, says he still tries to live as normal of a life as possible since becoming famous. He continues to live in Georgia next to his brother and said he enjoys buying new tractors and trucks with his money.

He added how much he loves coming to West Virginia and how the fans reach out to him. Foxworthy said he is a people person and enjoys meeting fans while also gaining new material from them.

“They will walk up to me and say ‘Hey Jeff, my mother,’ they just start and tell me things they shouldn’t tell their therapist. I then walk away and say hey I need to write that down,” he said.

Tickets for the show can be purchased on the State Fair of West Virginia’s website.
