Hundreds arrested, drug seized as part of Operation Crystal Mountain

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Authorities have arrested 235 people and seized more than 800 pounds of methamphetamine as part of a three-state operation.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration announced Tuesday it has wrapped up Operation Crystal Mountain, in which federal officials worked with authorities in West Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky to address drug trafficking organizations and people involved in making and distributing methamphetamine.

The operation began in January.

The suspects face federal drug-related charges; officials seized more than $800,000 in cash, 52 firearms and quantities of methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl and other drugs.

“We will continue to aggressively prosecute those involved in the meth trade. It leads to death, heartbreak and violence,” U.S. Attorney Bill Powell said in a statement.

“Our DEA and other law enforcement partners are on the front lines and making a difference.”
