Man dies after getting shot, then crashing en route to hospital

Toney Felix Myers Jr.

A man shot at a Center Point area home who then wrecked en route to the hospital has died.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Toney Felix Myers Jr. He was 39.

The shooting happened about 2 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 100 block of 14th Avenue N.W. Authorities said there were multiple people at the home when some type of argument erupted, and gunfire followed.

Myers was struck once, and got into a car and fled the scene. As he was trying to drive himself to the hospital, he crashed into a guardrail on Parkway East at Huffman Road. Birmingham police and firefighters responding to the wreck scene found Myers shot and rushed him to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:04 p.m.

Jefferson County sheriff's Chief Deputy Randy Christian said information gathered by the detectives is that Myers went to the house searching for girlfriend. While he was there, he got into an argument and then a physical fight with another man. It was during that fight that the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot Myers.

The suspect fled the scene and remains at large. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 205-325-1450 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
