Birmingham brothers indicted in shooting death of cousin

A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted two Birmingham brothers in the March shooting death of their first cousin.

The murder indictments against Travis Vanhorn, 23, and Thavion Vanhorn, 20, were issued June 22 and made public Friday, according to court documents. They are charged in the March 23 killing of Garry Lynn Logan, a 29-year-old father of four daughters and local rapper.

West Precinct officers responded about 2:40 p.m. that Friday to the 2300 block of South Park Drive on a report of a person down. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Logan in a grassy area. He had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead on the scene.

A neighbor discovered Logan that afternoon, but authorities haven't yet said when Logan was actually shot. Neighbors said they'd heard gunshots for the previous three nights in the area.

Authorities have not said what led to the deadly shooting. Family members have said the Vanhorn brothers and Logan were first cousins.

Thavion Vanhorn remains held in the Jefferson County Jail on $150,000 bond. Travis Vanhorn's bond is set at $245,000 because he is also charged with sex abuse of a child under the age of 12. Details about the alleged sex abuse have not been made public.
