Mike Pence to rally with Luther Strange at Birmingham airport Monday

Vice President Mike Pence is scheduled to join U.S. Sen. Luther Strange for a campaign rally Monday at HealthSouth Aviation in Birmingham, the Strange campaign said.

AL.com reported on the Pence visit Tuesday, but further details on the campaign stop were issued Wednesday.

The event with Pence is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Monday, but doors open to the public at 4 p.m. at HealthSouth Aviation at 4851 65th Place North.

"I am proud to have Vice President Pence join me in Birmingham on Monday night to address our campaign supporters," Strange said in a statement. "Vice President Pence has been a leader in the conservative movement for years and is working closely with President Trump to Make America Great Again. It's an honor to have both the President and the Vice President come to Alabama in the closing days of this primary campaign to help get out the vote in support of more jobs, lower taxes, and a health care system that works."

Pence's visit is planned for three days after President Donald Trump is holding a rally with Strange in Huntsville on Friday.

Strange, who was appointed to the Senate seat by then-Gov. Robert Bentley, is locked in a tight race with former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore in next week's Republican runoff. The winner will go on to face Democratic candidate Doug Jones.
