Auburn police investigate 2 potential threats at area middle schools

Auburn police have investigated potential threats to J.F. Drake Middle School and Auburn Junior High School and have determined neither threat represents a real threat to the schools.

In a statement, Auburn police learned about threatening language used by a 12-year-old at J.F. Drake Middle School Tuesday. Both police and school officials investigated the report, identified the source, and determined, on the same day, that there was no threat to the school.

On Wednesday, officials learned the reported "threatening language" was fabricated by another student, police said.

A student at Auburn Junior High School reported a concerning social media post Thursday, police said.

School officials and police learned the reported post was actually a prank that was posted several months ago and re-circulated. Both police and school officials determined the post did not represent a real threat to the school.

Anyone can report potential threats or crimes to Auburn police by calling 911, the non-emergency number (334) 501-3100, or anonymously on the tip line, (334) 246-1391.
