High speed, wet roads cause fatal crash in St. Clair County, troopers say

One person was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 in St. Clair County Wednesday afternoon, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Troopers responded to the crash at 4:35 p.m. The crash happened near Cooksprings, troopers said.

Troopers said the vehicle was traveling too fast for the wet road conditions and heavy rain when it left the road and struck a tree.

The driver and only occupant was pronounced dead at a local hospital, troopers said.

The driver's identity will not be released until next of kin are notified.

Further details about the crash were not immediately available. The crash is still under investigation.
