Heat advisories continue for parts of Alabama on Friday

Heat, humidity and storms. Alabama will have all three today, as is typical in the summertime.

But today's heat may make even those accustomed to Southern summers uncomfortable.

Strong to severe storms are also in the forecast for later today, but first will come the heat, and heat advisories have been issued for multiple counties in Alabama.

Temperatures today will rise into the low to mid-90s, and those combined with dew points in the 70s will make it feel like 105 degrees or higher in the advisory areas.

Southwest Alabama looks to be the hottest this afternoon, with possible heat index values up to 112 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

A heat advisory for southwest Alabama will be one effect from noon until 7 p.m. and affects Choctaw, Washington and Mobile counties.

A heat advisory for central Alabama will be in effect from noon until 7 p.m. and affects Marion, Lamar, Fayette, Winston, Walker, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Sumter, Greene, Hale, Perry, Bibb, Chilton, Marengo, Dallas, Autauga, Lowndes, Elmore and Montgomery counties.

A heat advisory for several north Alabama counties has been canceled as of Friday afternoon.

The heat index, or "feels like" temperature could rise as high as 107 degrees this afternoon in north and central Alabama and 112 degrees in southwest Alabama, according to the weather service.
