NORTH Ayrshire residents are being asked to be alert to a text messaging scam offering a refund on Council Tax. 

The council's Trading Standards team issued the warning this afternoon (Thursday) and said that they would never contact anyone by text message to offer a refund. 

They said: "We have been made aware of an attempted Council Tax scam by text message.

"If you receive this, or one similar, please delete it. Do not click on the link.

"North Ayrshire Council will not contact you by text to provide you with a refund."
