Two people wearing balaclavas who made off on a motorbike after a dog was shot and killed are being sought by police.
The 12-year-old Jack Russell called Millie was shot at about 06:00 GMT on 19 November in Eston, near Middlesbrough, Cleveland Police said.
Millie was taken to a vet but died, a spokeswoman said.
The pair were seen in the area of the car park at Ryfields House off Holmfields Road in Bankfields and rode off after the shot was fired.
The police spokeswoman said: "It is unimaginable and heartless that someone would purposely hurt an animal and then leave it dying in the road.
"Those responsible need to be caught and dealt with appropriately."
