Hurt man rescued after Ton Pentre sledging accident

A man was taken to hospital with "potentially severe injuries" after a sledging accident on the hillside above Ton Pentre, in Rhondda Cynon Taff, on Sunday evening.

Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team, who were asked to help rescue the man just before 18:00 GMT, filmed him being lifted into a helicopter.

"Using stretcher and ropes we extricated the gentleman from the ravine to a spot suitable to be winched on board the helicopter," a spokesman said.

Penarth Coastguard said it set up a helicopter landing site for the man to be airlifted to Cardiff by UK Search and Rescue St Athan, before he was transferred to the University Hospital of Wales by ambulance.
