CHICO — Stonewall Alliance Chico and the Museum of Northern California Art collaborated to show off art and invite the community to a potluck lunch.

Coming off the heels of its Great Heart LGBTQ+ Art and Live Show on Friday evening, Stonewall Alliance held its Great Heart Feast at the monca for about 50 guests.

Stonewall Alliance Event Coordinator Alyssa Larson said the main reason for the annual event is to give attendees a holiday-style meal.

“Traditionally, especially in some of our older generations, a lot of our LGBTQ community doesn’t have a great relationship with their families,” Larson said. “Having a big, hot and delicious meal to share with people that are joyous and positive is something we want to make sure everyone has the ability to have at some point.”

Held at monca for the first time, attendees were treated to free catering by Bank Club and donated food by Grub Chico and Chico Natural Food Cooperative.

Larson said the potluck was open to anyone in the community, regardless if they brought food or not.

“This is a chance for everybody no matter what to have that holiday style meal,” Larson said.

Along with the potluck, Stonewall Alliance also displayed an art gallery this weekend at monca from its Great Heart LGBTQ+ Art and Live Show.

The annual fall art show featured a zine-making workshop, spoken word poetry, a beer and wine garden and live musical performances.

This year’s theme “Great Heart” focused on the strength, kindness, courage and wisdom of the local LGBTQ+ community.

Pat Macias, Board President of monca, said she hopes the partnership between the museum and Stonewall Alliance continues for years to come.

“We love the coordination between Stonewall Alliance and monca,” Macias said. “We have done this for a couple of years now and a lot of the art has sold.”

Stonewall Alliance will be hosting a celebration for Transgender Day of Remembrance from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church of Chico, 667 E 1st Ave.
