Winchester police are asking residents to be vigilant — and lock their doors — after a string home burglaries in town.

There were at least seven residential break-ins in the last two weeks, they said. They happened during the day, when no one was home.

“In all of the reported incidents, there is minimal forced entry used (usually through a back window/door which is unlocked), small amounts of change and/or jewelry have been taken, or electronic gaming devices,” police said in a news release.

Police recommend that people lock all doors and windows when they leave their homes, and anyone who sees anything suspicious, such as an unfamiliar vehicle in the neighborhood, is asked to call 911.

Any other information about the burglaries may be reported to the Winchester Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division at 860-379-2721 or to the Crime Tip Line at 860-379-1950, police said.
