Concerns for a 'high risk' missing person in Weymouth triggered an emergency response on air, sea and land this morning.

The police helicopter, coastguard teams and lifeboat all joined the search for the man, after the alarm was raised around 6.30am.

Weymouth and Portland Police said officers were able to locate the man on the beach near Sandsfoot Castle, with the help of the Coastguard, RNLI lifeboat crews, South West Ambulance Service and police helicopter.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: "We were called at 6.32am today, Friday March 22 by the ambulance service to reports of a concern for welfare of a man at Weymouth Pavilion on The Esplanade.

"Officers attended, assisted by the National Police Air Service helicopter and the coastguard, to carry out a search of the area.

"The man has been located and is receiving emergency treatment."

A spokesman for Weymouth Lifeboat said: "Weymouth inshore lifeboat (ILB) and all weather lifeboat (ALB) were both tasked in a multi-agency search at 06.30 this morning.

"The ILB searched close inshore around the piers and the Nothe with the ALB searching just off shore. "Fortunately the person was found by Castle Cove Sailing Club and both boats were stood down."
