POLICE are urging motorists in West Dunbartonshire to make sure they lock their vehicle and remove valuable items when they park, after a recent rise in thefts across West Dunbartonshire.
Several Ford Transit vans have been stolen and property has been taken from vans and cars in recent weeks.
Incidents have been reported in Dumbarton, Duntocher and Dalmuir.
Many of the thefts have been opportunistic, from unlocked cars, and where valuable items have been left in sight.
Area Commander Chief Inspector Scott Carlin said: “I would ask people to take some basic precautions to ensure they don’t fall victim to this type of crime.
“If you use a vehicle for work you should make sure that all valuable tools etc are removed from the van when it’s unattended.
“I would also urge people park under street lights when possible and to keep your car key safe in your home, away from main entrances and out of sight.”
Other advice includes using security devices and sensor lighting at all times and locking gates and garages.
If you see anything suspicious call Police Scotland on 101 (999 in an emergency) or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to remain
anonymous.
