CONCORD — Firefighters quickly extinguished a residential fire that displaced nine people Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
At 3:58 p.m., dispatchers received word of flames shooting from the roof of a single-family home in the 2500 block of Erie Drive, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District spokesman Steve Hill said.
When nearly two dozen firefighters arrived aboard five engines and a truck, they first worked to assess initial reports that occupants or pets were still inside the home.
After learning all had gotten out on their own, firefighters quickly knocked down an exterior fire within three minutes. Although the fire did not enter the house, it still managed to cause significant damage, Hill said.
Red Cross Bay Area staff responded to the home and provided assistance to five adults and four children. There were no reports of injuries.
A fire district’s task force was assembled Wednesday afternoon in North Concord in preparation for expected red-flag weather conditions.
