Catholic women convention underway in Kohima

Dimapur, Jan. 19 (EMN):
The Nagaland Catholic Women Association (NCWA) is holding its 10th convention with the theme, “Women: Builders of bridge,” during January 18-20, at the Mary Help of Christians Cathedral, in Kohima.

Updates on Saturday said that the three-day convention began on Friday evening with an invocation by Annie Kath, advisor to the NCWA.

Rev. Dr. Sherman Kuek from Malaysia was the speaker for the 1st session on Friday. He spoke on the topic, “Mystery of the Eucharist.” He talked about the meaning and importance of the “Eucharist,” in using passages and relevant verses from the Bible.

Vilanuo Angela, the president of the NCWA delivered the presidential address. She expressed happiness and thanked the delegates and guests for coming to pray together, to share joy and to experience their way of worship. She wished that the participants would at the end of the convention take the good message back home to share it with their near and dear ones.

Another speaker, Rev. Sr. Mary Dukhru spoke about the topic “Women: Builders of peace,” while Rev. Sr. Margaret Sekhose, spoke on the topic, “Women in the social media and education,” during the 2nd and 3rd session, respectively, on Saturday .

On day-two, a choir competition was also held. The Angami Catholic Women Association won the competition. The Pochury Catholic Women Association; Holy Cross at Dimapur; and the Rengma Catholic Women Association bagged the second, third and fourth position, in that order.

The NCWA convention will culminate on Sunday with a Eucharistic celebration. Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, the bishop of Kohima, will preside over the Holy Mass in the morning. Dr. Sherman will speak on the topic, “Eucharist, the center of our faith,” during the last session of the event. There will also be an adoration and healing service with Rev. Fr. Avilhou Stephen.

The recording desk registered about 1065 delegates on day-two from different parishes in Nagaland including Jaipalguri Diocese, West Bengal and Cuttack Bubaneshwar Diocese, Odisha, the updates stated.
