Kohima, Nov 15 (EMN): Chedema Village Youth Organisation (CVYO) scripted history in a thrill by winning against United VNS Dimapur via tie breaker 7-6 after the match ended in 2-2 draw during the stipulated time to enter the semi-final of the 24th Classic Cup on Thursday.
Laiwang’s goal gave the early lead for Dimapur team, but in the second half Shurhosul got back the equaliser. Despite leading the winning goal in the extra minute time, Souhiampu strike back in the dying minutes to decide the match via tie-breaker.
In the penalty shootout, Seyieneituo – the custodian for Chedema parried away Mhasita’s shot as the captain Kekhrieletuo Tsira scored the winning goal for Chedema team 7-6 to win the match.
Playing at the Kohima local ground in the last quarterfinal match of the day, United VNS Dimapur got off a better start and Laiwang opened the account through an assist from Medonituo who dribble past the defender and latched a pass for him to tap in the first goal in the 14th minute.
Chedema team did eventually settled down but their blunt attack failed to make an impression in the first half. Their best chance came through Menguzelie Rutsa when his crossing was inches away from giving the lead as Shurhosul failed to tap in the ball into the net.
In the second half, Chedema came back stronger and dominate the ball possession, but it took 21 minutes as Shurhosul Zhotso found the equaliser in the 61st minute beautifully setup by Punuru Nienu.Imlongchaba, Chedema striker, could have finished the game when he came one on one with the keeper but shot directly to the keeper Ikiho as the 80th minute match ended in stalemate with both team failing to find the winning goal.
In the extra minute time, Shurhosul from a loose ball got better off defender Orlando to thump home the lead over the keeper in the 79th minute. That was not all as in the dying minutes, Dimapur team managed to find the equaliser through Soihampou to bring back the crowd back into their seat. In the process Khakevi crossing hits the captain Kekhrieletuo hand inside the area as the referee awarded a penalty.
Seyieneituo pulled off a spectacular save of Soihampou penalty but he managed to score from the rebound in the 110th minute to decide the match via penalties.
In a decider, all the Chedema players (ie) Shurhosul, Punuru, Kevisalie, Kenuse, Imlongchaba, Malder and Kekhrieletuo managed to convert the penalties.
But hard luck for Dimapur team as Mhasita kick was saved by the custodian, while the other opponent players Orlando, Vinoka, Laiwang, Khakevi, Souhiampu, Medoneituo managed to get the better of the keeper.
