Teemu Pukki could prove to be the steal of the summer for Norwich City.

The prolific frontman notched his fifth goal for the Canaries in the 2-1 Championship win at Reading, and his seventh in 11 appearances for club and country.

City swooped for Pukki on a free transfer following his exit from Danish heavyweights Brondby, despite interest from Turkey and Greece, and that already looks astute business.

'We were sure that we would have a brilliant signing, particularly as he was a free transfer, but everything has to come together,' said Farke. 'It was for us a difficult situation because we had to sell so many important players and raise money because of the financial situation.

'We had to sell two of our best goalscoring players and lost a couple of important loan players.

'When you are not able to spend £10m on a striker you have to find some smart solutions, be creative and quick. Maybe smarter than some other clubs. It is too early to judge yet but Teemu seems to be a really good signing.'

Pukki swept home Todd Cantwell's pass to open the scoring at the Madejski.

'He is a bit on fire,' said Farke. 'Sometimes you have these periods when you feel you can score everytime. Teemu was there again with a quality finish but in the first 25 minutes I thought we played some really good stuff.

'We deserved to be in the lead and that goal was a sign of our dominance. A great assist from Todd and an ice cold finish from Teemu. We are pretty pleased we have him.

'You always have some hopes when you follow a player for a long time, over several years. He was always a player who excited me and I knew he was pretty good in the finishing situation, and he has improved from year to year.

'But he can also link the play as well as a good workload, good attitude and he works hard for the team.

'He was in a brilliant shooting position but tried to set up Alex Tettey, when he should score his second goal, but it is a sign he is not selfish.'

Pukki's strike came in a spell Farke labelled his gold standard.

'In the last 15 minutes of the first half we were a bit over-confident and not good in the passing but the first 30 minutes is pretty close to what I want from my team,' said the City head coach. 'If we do that, we can win many, many points.

'We are able to score goals even when the opponent puts some pressure on us, like Reading did in the second half.

'Well deserved to get six points in the last two games. To have your first away win is good for the mood, good for the self-confidence.'
