Rams' Aqib Talib out at least month with high ankle sprain; Marcus Peters (calf) day-to-day

NFL, Los Angeles Rams

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay couldn't imagine a scenario where he would potentially lose both of his starting cornerbacks to injuries.

But that is potentially the case as the Rams (3-0) prepare to play the Minnesota Vikings (1-1-1) on Thursday night.

Aqib Talib suffered a high ankle sprain Sunday in a victory over the Los Angeles Chargers that will sideline him indefinitely, and Marcus Peters strained his calf and is questionable to play against the Vikings, McVay said.

"Hopefully we'll get him back at some point in time and he'll handle it the right way and do everything he can to get back sooner than later," McVay said about Talib, who will seek a second opinion on his ankle before undergoing surgery. "It is something we anticipate him getting back at some point. When that date would be, it's hard to say right now."

Sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter that Talib will be out at least one month.

McVay expressed optimism that Peters, who injured his calf in the first half on a play defending tight end Antonio Gates, won't be sidelined long.

"He'll be day-to-day and hopefully we have a chance to get him going this week," McVay said.

Nickell Robey-Coleman, Sam Shields and Troy Hill are expected to play in Talib's, and possibly Peters', absence.

The Rams acquired Peters, who has a league-best 20 interceptions dating to 2015, and Talib in a series of offseason moves to upgrade their defense.

This season, Peters has four tackles and one pass deflection. He returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown in Week 1.

Talib has seven tackles and two pass deflections.

McVay also said outside linebacker Dominique Easley is questionable to play Thursday against the Vikings after injuring his knee Sunday. Easley has had three major knee injuries dating back to college.

Returner JoJo Natson had hand surgery Monday and will be sidelined against Minnesota, but McVay said there was a chance he could return for Week 5 against the Seattle Seahawks. In Natson's absence, Cooper Kupp will return punts and Blake Countess will return kickoffs.
