Phoenix police: 16-year-old dies after being shot; suspect arrested

PHOENIX (FOX 10) - Police say a 16-year-old has died being shot on Tuesday night in Phoenix.

According to Phoenix police, Mohamad Shah Bin Salim and his 21-year-old friend were inside their car at a convenience store near 59th Avenue and Bethany Home Road on February 12 when they drove in front of another vehicle, driven by 19-year-old Eduardo Rodriguez Madera.

Police say Madera was angered when the victims' vehicle drove in front of him, so he followed them to 59th Avenue and Indian School Road where he shot at their car and drove away.

The victims were inside their vehicle and stopped at a red light when Salim's friend heard a "pop" and thought he had a problem with his tire.

Soon after, he realized the rear window was damaged and Salim said he didn't feel well. Salim's friend didn't have a functioning cellphone and tried to drive home but noticed his friend was injured.

He stopped at a nearby business and asked people to call for help because Salim had been shot.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and Salim was taken to a nearby hospital in extremely critical condition where he later died.

Police say tactical officers located Madera's vehicle on February 14 and he was taken into custody. During an interview, police say Madera admitted to his involvement in the shooting.

Police believe there were other people inside Madera's vehicle during the shooting and they would like to speak to them.
