Plane from New York to Atlanta struck by lightning

For the second time this week, a plane traveling to Atlanta was struck by lightning.

Delta Flight 663 arrived in Atlanta just before 1:30 a.m. Thursday after a reported lightning strike. The plane was flying from New York’ LaGuardia Airport.

Delta sent the following statement regarding the incident:

“Delta flight 663 landed in Atlanta without incident following reports of a possible lightning strike prior to arrival. Aircraft design allows lightning to be safely redirected, however, as with any event involving aircraft, Delta is doing a thorough evaluation of the aircraft as safety is always our top priority.”

The flight was nearly five hours late arriving in Atlanta due to the weather.

Just this past Tuesday, the same thing reportedly happened to a Delta flight that had to make an emergency landing in Chattanooga.

More than 160 people were on board that flight.
