BELLE ROSE, La. (WVUE) - A 52-year-old Pierre Part woman was killed in a crash on LA-1 in Belle Rose Tuesday afternoon (April 2), according to Louisiana State Police.

Terri Ganel was driving south on LA-1 near LA-998 around 1 p.m. when she lost control of her car driving through a curve in the highway, police said. Ganel’s vehicle struck a 2016 Jeep Wagoneer, which was stopped on the shoulder of LA-1 North.

Ganel was not properly wearing a seat belt and was critically injured in the crash. State police said she was brought to Prevost Memorial Hospital where she later died.

A 58-year-old woman was in the Jeep when it was struck and was also unrestrained. Police said she sustained minor injuries. The woman agreed to a breathalyzer test which police said showed no signs of alcohol.

It was not immediately clear what caused Ganel to lose control of her vehicle, and police said a standard toxicology report will be performed during an autopsy.
