Hundreds of people hoping to visit the Carifesta Grand Market were stuck in a line outside the venue at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain on Friday night after T&T Fire Service officials shut down the venue due to overcrowding.
After standing in line for close to half an hour, hopeful patrons we're told at 9.05pm that the T&T Fire Service had ordered event organisers to close both entry gates to the market and restrict access.
Guardian Media was told this step was taken because the venue was too full and fire officers said it posed a safety risk to let any more patrons inside.
Many frustrated patrons left after the gates were not reopened within the hour.
The market has been running from 11 am to 11 pm each day during the duration of the event, which closes Sunday.
Carifesta officials have announced that 10,000 patrons have been flocking to the venue daily but it is expected that more would do so this weekend with the event coming to a close.
