TOPEKA – The Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence’s 16th Annual Advocacy Day was on Feb. 13 in the Kansas Capitol with local domestic and sexual violence center BrightHouse in attendance. The goal of Advocacy Day is to increase public knowledge and awareness of sexual and domestic violence and the victim advocacy services available and provided to victims and survivors of sexual and domestic violence in Kansas.

All legislators, journalists, and members of the public were invited for the day of tabling and information, especially for the Silent Witness Display Program floor in the rotunda in the Kansas Capitol. The consisted of a few speakers and introduced the Silent Witness Displays set up around the rotunda. The Silent Witness Displays are life-size silhouettes, representing Kansas women who lost their lives through sexual and domestic violence. The speakers included Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation Manager Marlou Wegener, University of Kansas Professor Juliana Carlson, and KCSDV Executive Director Joyce Grover.

On the first floor of the rotunda, KCSDV’s coalition member programs, including Hutchinson’s own BrightHouse, each had a table with information on the breadth and depth of services the organizations provide to victims and survivors every day in their local communities. KCSDV also had tables of information on the first and second floors in the rotunda.
