Daman and Diu Administration Issues Circular Asking Women Staff to Tie Rakhis to Male Colleagues, Later Withdraws it

As per reports, an attendance report was to be sent to the government the next evening to ensure that no one skipped office.

New Delhi, Aug 3: The Daman and Diu administration on Tuesday issued a circular asking women staff to tie rakhis to male colleagues. However, it was withdrawn later after the order triggered a backlash from employees and went viral on the social media.

“It has been decided to celebrate the festival of Rakshabandhan on August 7. In this connection, all offices/ departments shall remain open and celebrate the festival collectively at a suitable time wherein all the lady staff shall tie rakhis to their colleagues,” the order, issued on August 1 by Gurpreet Singh, deputy secretary (personnel), had said.

The order which was reportedly issued on Daman and Diu administrator and former Gujarat home minister Praful Kodabhai Patel’s direction received huge criticism from all across on the social media. It was withdrawn through a one-line order issued late on Wednesday evening by the department of personnel and administrative reforms of Daman and Diu.

Taking to social media site Facebook, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor termed the order issued by the Daman and Diu administration as ridiculous while sharing the link to a tweet, with the picture of the circular, which was posted by a user on micro-blogging site Twitter.

Rakshabandhan, a festival celebrating the bond of love between brothers and sisters, will be celebrated across India on August 7.
