Hundreds of people have attended the funeral of former Armagh GAA coach John Morrison.

Mr Morrison (69) died last week and was laid to rest after Requiem Mass in his native city on Saturday.

His coffin was draped in an Armagh county flag and Armagh Harps club flag as it was taken to St Malachy’s Church.

Gaels from across the Orchard County and further afield came to pay their respects to the highly regarded GAA man.

Members of the Armagh County Board and Armagh Harps officials formed a guard of honour as the cortege made its way through the city.

Armagh Harps ladies and underage teams also lined part of the route.

Armagh senior football captain Rory Grugan was among current and former county players in attendance.

Other high profile GAA figures included Armagh manager Kieran McGeeney and former Derry and Mayo boss Mickey Moran.

During Requiem Mass a GAA football and Armagh Harps jersey were brought to the alter.

An Armagh City soccer jersey was also presented.

In the past Mr Morrison coached with Derry, Donegal, Mayo and Leitrim, and was an author of training manuals, articles and was a columnist with The Irish News.

Armagh Harps chairman Paul Gribben said he was instrumental in securing the club’s current grounds.

“He will be a big miss for us in the club,” he said.

“We will be indebted to him for having the foresight to buy the property,” he said.
