The Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen basketball team fell to the Laramie County Golden Eagles on Wednesday night by a slim margin. The men have been right on the teetering point in the last several games, but haven’t been able to finish the way they wanted to.

The men traveled to Cheyenne, Wyo. to play against the Laramie County Eagles, hoping to break their four-game losing streak. Northeastern has been on the cusp of winning against tough opponents, but seems to always struggle with one aspect of their game, resulting in a narrow loss.

This game was no different. While their defensive and offensive schemes were flawless, it was their turnovers that cost them.

The game was what was expected from the matchup, as either team could be victorious. At halftime, the Plainsmen led 36-33. In the final minutes, Northeastern had the nine-point lead, but then went on a cold streak, allowing Laramie County to go on a 10-0 run.

With the Plainsmen down by two and only seconds remaining, Nykolas Lange turned the corner and had a chance at making a layup. He missed the shot, but Iseri Palacio was there to gather the rebound. On the ensuing shot, he was unable to get it out of his hand before the buzzer sounded, resulting in a two-point loss.

Next home game for the Plainsmen is a conference game on Monday, Dec. 3 against Sheridan College at 7 p.m.
