Authorities authorities are investigating numerous bomb threats across Kansas as a wave of hoax threats are being reported across the country.

Wichita police said Friday that threats had been received at at least 10 locations across the city. The exact locations were not provided, but a dispatcher listed the following areas affected Thursday afternoon:

  • Greenwich and 26th Street North
  • West and 31st Street South
  • Custer and Maxwell
  • Harry and Grove
  • Webb and Greenbriar
  • Douglas and New York

Wichita police said the threats were received via email and determined the they were unfounded.

In Great Bend, Police Chief David Bailey told the Tribune that bomb threats were reported at Landmark National Bank on Main Street and three Sunflower Diversified Services locations, the searches of which turned up clean.

He said a rash of similar threats were reported in Reno County. 

Hays High School was locked down briefly Thursday, the district said, not saying why the school was locked down. 

Thursday's threats came as bomb threats demanding bitcoin funds were reported across the country, according to ABC News. Police said businesses and schools were evacuated because of the bomb threat hoax.

The FBI said in a statement that it was aware of "recent bomb threats made in cities around the country." The agency is in touch with local law enforcement to provide assistance, it said, asking the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious activity.
