Sheriff hopes new details can help identify body found in Ohio River

ALEXANDER COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - A death investigation is underway in Alexander County, Illinois after a body was found in the Ohio River.

According to Alexander County Sheriff Tim Brown, someone working on a barge found a white male in the river at Cairo at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Monday, April 22.

At this time, the identity of the deceased is unknown and Sheriff Brown hopes the public can help. He wants to bring closure to the man’s family.

Sheriff Brown said the unknown man was between 25 to 35 years-old, 180 pounds, and 6 foot 2.

It’s believed the deceased had been in the river no longer than a month.

Sheriff Brown said he has contacted agencies in the area to see if there any missing person cases that would possibly match the identity of the man found. He has talked with authorities as far as New Orleans, Louisiana.
