TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Drivers in East Texas are seeing the biggest weekly jump in gas prices since 2017.

The weekend gas watch from AAA Texas shows gas prices are up 14 cents compared to last week. The average price of a gallon of regular unleaded is around $2.12.

Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in Midland are paying the most at an average price of $2.40. Drivers in Beaumont, Tyler and Wichita Falls are paying the least at $2.07 per gallon.

The jump at the pump is being felt nationwide as gas prices increase as a result of ongoing refinery problems coupled with crude oil prices hitting their highest level so far this year as global crude inventories tighten.

Crude oil inventories are expected to continue to tighten and keep gas prices higher through the end of February, according to AAA.
