Authorities released video Tuesday in the fatal police shooting of an Overland Park, Kansas, teenager.John Albers, 17, was fatally shot by Overland Park police on Jan. 20.Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe said no criminal charges would be filed against the officer for the use of force.Overland Park Police said officers were called to 149th Terrace and England to check on a person who reportedly threatened to harm himself. When officers arrived at the house, investigators said the garage door opened and a vehicle exited. An officer fired, killing Albers.Video shows a mini van exiting the garage of a home, despite the officer's repeated demands to stop the vehicle.At one point in the video, the mini van spins around, almost striking the officer.The incident lasted 14 seconds, and investigators said a total of 13 shots were fired.Authorities said the officer involved in the shooting resigned from the force for personal reasons.Mike Mosher, president of the Overland Park Fraternal Order of Police, thanked the Johnson County Officer Involved Shooting Investigation Team, the Johnson County District Attorney, and everyone else involved with this investigation for being professional, detailed and thorough."One of our Lodge members was involved in an Officer Involved Shooting Incident after being sent to assist a young man who desperately needed help," Mosher said. "That short incident changed the lives of everyone involved forever. A Police Officer never wishes to be put in the situation where taking a life is necessary to protect their own, especially when that life belongs to a child."Our thoughts and prayers continue for the Albers family, the Blue Valley School District family, our involved member, and for our other lodge members directly impacted by this incident. We would also like to thank the public for allowing the investigation to take it’s course without incident."
