KC firefighters battle house fire, freezing conditions after suicidal individual sets fire to home

Kansas City firefighters were called to battle a house fire Tuesday afternoon near the Beacon Hill area.The fire was reported just after 2 p.m. in the 2700 block of Grove Street.Police told reporter William Joy that a suicidal individual attempted to burn down the home with other people inside.One woman on scene said she smelled gas inside the home and quickly started to help get people out.A police officer did suffer minor injuries during this incident. No additional injuries were reported. Due to the size of the blaze, crews made the decision the fire in a defensive mode.One person was taken into custody in connection with the incident.
