Wisconsin woman sends message of support to her high school in Parkland, Florida
When classes resume at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Wednesday, students will feel the support of alumni all around the world who have shared words of encouragement through letters and a video that's been shown on cable and network channels. Toni Davison Levenberg is among them. The Brown Deer woman, a 1995 graduate of the Parkland, Florida, high school, took part in the video and submitted two handwritten letters that will be handed out to students. "It's crushing. It felt — it feels — awful," Davison Levenberg said of the pain she felt when her alma mater became the site of a mass killing. Davison Levenberg moved to Milwaukee in 2006 for work, but she still has family and friends in Parkland. She remains an active alumna and helped plan her class' 10th and 20th reunions, and she said she’s inspired by the students who are now advocating for change."They are so incredibly articulate and smart and so passionate," she said. The letters that will be distributed to students follow a format. The alumni are to tell the students who they are, what they do, and their memories of MSD. They're also meant to offer encouragement, and to remind students they're not alone.Davison Levenberg said the message in her letters is simple: "There's nothing we can do to undo what happened," she said. "But we are here for you. We’re listening. Let us help you so that you can take a breath.""This happened in our home and it shouldn’t happen again," she added. "And it's incredible how everyone is coming together to use their voices to help it not happen again in the future."Watch "#MSDSTRONG | Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School" on Vimeo:
