Police arrests butchers in Srinagar for overpricing


Srinagar, June 04 (KNS) Srinagar Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested two butchers for selling meat exorbitant rates in Srinagar.
Acceding to police statement issued to KNS said, acting tough against the shopkeepers for selling items on the inflated rates, Police in Srinagar have arrested two butchers for selling meat at exorbitant rates.
Officers in the jurisdiction of Police Station Nigeen along with Tehsildar North and CAPD officials held market checking and have arrested two butchers identified as Mohd Shafi Magrey and Mukhtar Ahmad Kalla both residents of Dhobigat Hazratbal for selling meat at exorbitant rates. Both the shops were sealed by the concerned Magistrate. Both the accused butchers have been arrested and shifted to PS Nigeen where they remain in custody.
Accordingly, case FIR NO. 98/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered at PS Nigeen and further investigation into the matter has been initiated.
Moreover, a fine of Rs 2000 has also been recovered by the concerned officers from the erring shopkeepers for selling items at higher rates.
Police have requested the traders and shopkeepers not to indulge in overpricing, black marketing, hoarding or any violation of essential commodities otherwise strict action under law will be taken against the violators. (KNS)
