Sahitya Akademi New Delhi reaches Mahu Banihal

Banihal, Jul 15 (KNS): An impressive literary event was organised by National Akademi of Letters Sahitya Akademi New Delhi at far-flung hilly area Mahu located in uphills of Banihal sub division of Jammu province.

This is the first ever programme of its kind organised by any organisation in this area, a statement issued to KNS reads.

Hundreds of literature lovers who participated in the event thanked Sahitya Akademi and Convener of its Kashmiri advisory board for reaching this difficult and downtrodden area.

During the day-long literary event, a symposium on the topic "Evolution of kashmiri literature in Chenab valley" was organised.

Senior Kashmiri writers Manshor Banhali, Zahir Banhali, Farooq Rafiabadi, Shabir Hussain Shabir and Bamboor Yousf presented their papers covering various aspects of the topic.

Convener Kashmiri advisory board Dr. Aziz Hajni while inaugurating the symposium said that it is really a matter of pride and privilege for Sahitya Akademi to reach Mahu like Kashmiri speaking area of State of J&K which had remained uncovered so for despite the fact that it has a tremendous potential of literary traditions.

Among others who were present on the occasion are Irshad Ali, Shabir Ahmad, Ab. Hamid Shiekh, Haji Gh. Mohd Bhat, Gul Jan, Ab. Rasheed Tantry, Bashir Ahmad Naik and Bilal Wani. The event ended with a vote of thanks by Irshad Ali. (KNS)
