NEW YORK, SC (CBS NEW YORK/WCSC) - A Summerville woman was killed by a train in New York City this past weekend.

According to CBS New York, Helen McDonald-Phalon was killed around 3 a.m. on Saturday at the Union Square subway station.

New York officials say the 21-year-old somehow came into contact with a train while she was on the platform, and ended up on the tracks.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority wouldn’t give details on exactly how the incident happened, only saying the platform was not crowded and the train had been moving before the woman was hit.

They say it doesn’t appear to be an intentional act, just a horrible and uncommon accident.

According to CBS New York, McDonald-Phalon moved to New York from South Carolina in 2015.
