Would a police car running
out of gas garner coverage?

Re: “Fremont police Tesla runs low on juice during high-speed chase” (Mercurynews.com, Sept. 24):

You article on the police Tesla running out of charge during a police chase caught my attention. If this can happen to a police car, surely it can happen to anyone.

It was four paragraphs into the article — after powerful statements like “I am down to six miles of battery on the Tesla so I may lose it here in a sec” —  that the real truth comes out.

Apparently, the battery had not been recharged the previous shift.

Consider a gasoline-powered police cruiser which was not fueled and the police had to call off a chase because the car was running out of fuel. Would that merit an article in your newspaper? Clearly not. This article was written and published purely because the car was electric and, perhaps, a Tesla.
