Magi swimming & diving takes down Century in Bismarck

BISMARCK — Going head to head against Bismarck Century is something the Minot High School boys swimming and diving team has been preparing for all season. Taking on a team in a dual is vastly different from seeing the teams at invitationals.

Minot High prepared its best lineup and was able to take down Century, 100-85, Thursday at the Bismarck State College Aquatic and Wellness Center.

After four events, the Patriots had the edge over the Magicians, leading 32-30 going into diving. With one Century diver against four Minot divers, three of whom scored points for the team, the Magicians charged ahead to take a 41-36 lead over the Patriots. Minot High was able to maintain the lead for the remainder of the meet.

In the diving well, Layton King took first with a total score of 220.90. Filling out the podium were Century’s Zack Pfeifer (186.05) and Mason Robertson (183.45). Reece Pedereson took fourth with a 172.30.

Winning events in the lanes for the Magi were William Walker-Rozo, Peyton Huss and Zac Spaulding.

Walker-Rozo finished with a 2:03.00 in the 200-yard individual medley to take first. Magi Jack Wolsky and Dominic Yoder took third and fifth in the event, respectively.

Huss took first in the 100 butterfly with a 55.92, dropping over a half a second off his season best time. Griffin Schaeffer and Levi VonBokern finished third and fourth in the event.

In the 100 freestyle, Spaulding claimed first with a time of 50.48. Grant Schaeffer and Steve Novak finished third and fourth in the event.

The Magi will jump back in the water Saturday for the Mandan Invite at Mandan Aquatic Center where they will see Mandan, Century, Legacy and Bismarck High. Diving will begin at 10 a.m., followed by swimming at 11 a.m.
