It’s been a few seasons since we saw teams from Welshpool and Newtown contesting a league title, but the top two of the JT Hughes Montgomeryshire Amateur League division two are promising us just that.
Welshpool Town Reserves’ young side is still in pole position after a goalless draw with fourth placed Llanfechain, but their lead at the top is just three points now after Newtown Wanderers turned it on against Llanwddyn for a 6-1 win.
There were also wins for Abermule Reserves, Waterloo Rovers Reserves and Llansantffraid Reserves.
In the only top flight game, Llangedwyn beat Llanfyllin 2-0.
On Sunday, Forden United overcame Mid Wales opposition in Machynlleth, 2-0, to advance in the Central Wales Cup, and Berriew beat Churchstoke in the Montgomeryshire Cup.
