League leaders beaten
Crew Green A have thrown the Montgomeryshire Airgun League title chase wide open after ending Arddleen’s unbeaten record.
With the season entering its second half, mid-table Crew Green performed superbly to win 205.7-203.5, with Edward Kelton (34.9) leading the way and backed up by his teammates’ high scoring.
Jack Francis (35.3) did his best but it wasn't enough to stop Arddleen suffering their first defeat of the season, and opening the door for the chasing pack.
Guilsfield A took advantage by beating Castle Caereinion 207.8-200.1, despite the best efforts of Richard Morgan with 34.9. Guilsfield showed once again that consistency is everything with Roger Knight shooting 35.4 and one of their longest serving members, Norman Williams, equalling Knight shot-for-shot.
Churchstoke continued their run of form with a victory over visitors Forden, 204.7-193.9. Paul Gwilliam continued to impress with 35.4, his third possible of the season. Forden are still waiting to take their first scalp but they are improving. This week, Shaun O'Connor shot an impressive 32.5 and Phil Astley finished top of their pile with 32.6.
It was Guilsfield who won the battle of the B's, 206.1-201.4. Crew Green’s Hilditch brothers shot well with 34.9 each, but it was the performances from Paul Edwards and Catherine Farmer of Guilsfield B that put the match out of reach, each recording possible scores of 35.3 and 35.4 respectively.
Llanfair Caereinion played host to Newtown with some decent shooting by both teams in an exciting match. On this occasion even a commanding performance from Jess Corbett, 35.1, wasn’t enough to halt Llanfair who took the contest 201.7-199.0, thanks in no small part to the experienced Dai Tom Williams who scored 35.3.
