Richmond art sale will benefit Notre Dame Cathedral
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A Richmond artist is selling her works to benefit rebuilding efforts at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France.
JC Gilmore-Bryan created screenprints of the cathedral during her 2017 and 2018 residencies at Paris’ Cite Internationale des Arts. The works are on display at Studio Two Three and Crossroads Art Center, which are hosting sales from Tuesday, April 23 to Saturday, May 4.
“I have spent many hours visiting and photographing and making artworks of Notre Dame, beginning with my first visit over 30 years ago,” says Gilmore-Bryan. “The fire has caused me to decide to deliver a personal contribution for the Cathedral’s rebuilding fund, and now Studio Two Three and Crossroads Art Center are helping me raise additional money. This grand building, more than any other in the world, holds a special significance in my life both personally and as an artist.”

“Crossroads Art Center provides support for a lot of good organizations in the Richmond region, but this is our first international cause,” said Crossroads owner Jenni Kirby. “JC’s screenprints of Notre Dame are special indeed, and we are pleased to have the opportunity to help with this philanthropic effort."
“JC is one of our favorite resident artists at Studio Two Three,” said the studio’s executive director, Ashley Hawkins, “and I’ve greatly admired her prints of Notre Dame. I’m proud that Studio Two Three is participating in her project to help repair the Cathedral.”
Gilmore-Bryan will be present at Studio Two Three from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. April 27, and at Crossroads Art Center from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. May 4.
All of the proceeds will go to the Cathedral fund, and Gilmore-Bryan will deliver them in person when she travels to Paris on May 7.
Gilmore-Bryan holds art degrees from MTSU, Vanderbilt, and Columbia. A longtime art instructor at VCU, she currently teaches at Virginia State University and the Visual Arts Center of Richmond.
Her international credentials include several residencies at Paris’ Cite International des Arts, a Fulbright Scholar appointment to Bulgaria, and a Council for the International Exchange of Scholars appointment to Zimbabwe.
