Jefferson City man gets prison time for 2017 burglary

A Jefferson City man has been sentenced to five years in prison for a November 2017 burglary.

Cole County Judge Dan Green also ordered Ishmel Martin, 23, to pay $3,150 in restitution after Martin pleaded guilty to one county of first-degree burglary.

The break-in occurred in the 200 block of West Atchison Street, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement.

Martin forced his way into the victim's apartment through a window and stole several items.

Some of the items taken were located later in the yard of a neighboring apartment complex, which has exterior video cameras. Looking at that video footage, authorities saw Martin carrying the victim's belongings into an apartment. Officers went to the apartment, took Martin into custody and found more of the stolen items.

When questioned, Martin admitted to forcing entry into the victim's apartment and stealing items.

He had been serving probation for another burglary charged when this incident occurred.

Martin had also been charged in connection with a July 2018 robbery case, but prosecutors dropped the charge against him in that case.
